About Jack
Born and raised in East Edinburgh, Jack graduated in Law last year from the University of Edinburgh via a year studying abroad in Santiago, Chile. He has been dedicating himself to party politics and third sector activism ever since.
Jack joined the SNP in June 2018 in response to SNP MPs staging a walkout from the House of Commons. Since then, he has been an active campaigner in the 2019 European Parliament election, the Shetland Scottish Parliament by-election, and numerous council by-elections, and sat on Tommy Sheppard MP’s campaign committee for Edinburgh East in the 2019 General Election. He was involved in relaunching YSI Lothian in April 2019, and was elected Regional Convener shortly after. He also serves as the Organiser for Craigentinny/Duddingston branch.
Jack oversaw the YSI’s successful campaign to pass a resolution at the SNP’s Autumn 2019 Conference calling on the party to create a statutory Scots Language Board, authoring and proposing the resolution. In August 2019 Jack founded Oor Vyce, a campaign calling on the Scottish Government to take serious political action to promote and protect the Scots Language. In his role as convener of Oor Vyce, he has worked alongside MSPs to support the establishment of a parliamentary Cross-Party Group on Scots and engaged with relevant stakeholders across the political spectrum and civil society.
He has specific policy interests in housing, land reform, constitutions, economic equality, international solidarity, and more. Outside of politics, he spends his time hiking and mountaineering, as well as studying history, language, and traditional music.
As a day job, he works as the Parliamentary Assistant to Owen Thompson MP in Midlothian.
