Emma began campaigning for Scottish independence during the 2014 referendum in her hometown of Paisley and joined the party shortly afterward. Emma got involved in campaigning because as a young carer for her mum, she hoped an independent Scotland would facilitate a more compassionate and fairer welfare system than Scotland being forced to endure Tory austerity. She is currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at Glasgow Uni and will become a trainee solicitor later this year.
Whilst studying for her undergrad, Emma also had the privilege of participating in the EU’s Erasmus programme, which allowed her to study abroad in Ghent, Belgium. This has encouraged her to campaign harder for an independent Scotland in the European Union.
Since joining the party over 5 years ago, Emma has held various positions in the youth wing of the party. Most recently, before taking up her role as National Secretary, she was Vice Convener of the West of Scotland Regional Association.
Emma is also currently on the party’s National Executive Committee as an Ordinary Member for the West of Scotland. She is also her branch Women and Equalities Officer.
Emma is especially interested in the policy issues of equality, welfare, social justice and education.
